2025 Update – What is my why?
Years ago, I tried to explain to someone how I was feeling. I had been digging through my big purse, just trying to find my Chapstick and I was so frustrated. I couldn’t explain what I was feeling, but it wasn’t good. Not long after that, I switched to a small purse. Carrying very few things, I can always find my Chapstick now.
Recently, I heard someone use the term “friction” to describe a something similar. It clicked and made so much sense! Having to move things aside, rummaging through belongings to get to what I am looking for creates friction. Friction slows things down. It’s not quite a road block or obstacle, but it is irritating.
My why for “organizing” is to have less friction in my life. I’m not perfectly organized. Everything is not beautifully lined up and in the perfect place, but there is less to slow me down. When I am doing my everyday activities – getting dressed and ready for the day, cooking dinner, doing laundry, painting a picture, etc. – I know where the things are that I need and can access them easily. This keeps me moving and reduces the stress.
Because life is hard, we need our spaces to be easy.
Peace!

My Story
My name is Emily Gamblin and I believe that you can make a change anytime: Big or small, little by little or all at once.
Spending so much time at home during the 2020 pandemic, I really came to appreciate my home. I am so thankful for our house and being able to share it with the people I love the most: my husband and 3 sons. It is our refuge and our safe place.
I spent a lot of time looking at our house and thinking about what I could change. I also started watching YouTube. I discovered a group of influencers who taught about decluttering, organizing, and minimalism and that became an escape for me; A little time to stop looking at my four walls and think about something different.
The idea that I didn’t need to hold onto all the stuff I had, and having a simpler life with fewer decisions to make, was very appealing to me. I started my journey of decluttering, which led to being able to get things organized and knowing where things are and where to put them back. And suddenly, I felt like I could breathe! I felt lighter and like a weight was lifted. I felt like I could manage life. I didn’t even know that all my stuff was weighing me down.
